Quest Rewards Explained

Rewards Row 1 - these rewards are the main bulk of your rewards, and you get them just for completing the quest. This row usually has materials from the monster you hunted.
Rewards Row 2 - also obtained just from completing the quest. However, they are usually bone husks / charms / armour spheres unless you have done a quest with multiple different monsters.
Capture Rewards and Breaks - depending on how you beat a monster, you can get different rewards. By capturing a monster, you get 2 capture rewards (usually with a different drop rates to carve rewards). Each time you break a breakable part of a monster, you will also get a reward in this part of the rewards screen. What item you get is completely dependant on the part you broke.
Can I improve the rewards I get?
There are four ways to affect the rewards you get:
- Whether you kill or capture the monster
- How many breakable parts you break, and what they are
- Armour skills you have
- Eating for specific skills at the kitchen
Kill vs Capture
Killing a monster gives 3 carves most of the time, whereas capturing gives 2-3 rewards, usually 2 (these numbers can be improved with armour skills - see below). However, capturing often has slightly better chances of dropping rarer items.
Breaking Parts
Sometimes, the only way to get a particular item is through breaking a monster's specific part. For example, breaking the head of most monsters can give Horns, which often are difficult to get through other quest rewards. In addition, tails can usually only be carved from the tail (surprise!)
Armour Skills
The Fate skill (+10=Good Luck, +15=Great Luck)
- These skills increase the chance of getting more rewards in Rows 1 and 2 of the reward screen.
- You can get these skills from the Guild Bard/Scholar armours or Gold Rathian armour.
The Tranquilzr skill (+10=Capture Expert, +15=Capture Master)
- These affect the number of capture rewards you get. Expert always nets you 3 rewards and Master is 3 with a chance of 4.
- You can get these skills from Plesioth / Plesioth X armours.
The Carving skill (+10=Carving Pro, +15=Carving Master)
- While not affecting the rewards screen, these skills give you a chance to get an extra carve from a monster's tail or body.
- You can get these skills from the Ranger/Archer, Strider/Deadeye and Lucent Nargacuga armours.
Kitchen Skills
Both Carver and Fate skills can be obtained from the kitchen.
Carver [Lo] is like Carving Pro, and Lucky Cat is akin to Good Luck. Both can always be obtained via mixing Dairy and Drink.
The higher version of these kitchen skills (Carver [Hi] and Ultra Lucky Cat) are not available every in-game day, but may be available randomly when you use a drink in your combination.
